About the event

There's a moment every gardener knows — the one where the tomatoes keep coming, the zucchini won't quit, and half of it is going to go to waste unless you do something about it. This class is about that "something."

Whether you're drowning in garden overflow and don't want to lose a single tomato, a beginner who's always wanted to learn to can but never had someone show you how, or someone who just wants their fresh food to last a little longer — this is your room!

Shannon McGuire, Gardener at Hey Neighbor Farm
Shannon McGuire, Gardener at Hey Neighbor Farm

Shannon McGuire — owner of Hey Neighbor Farm in Waterford, WI — has never been without a garden, and has spent years championing food security in her community. She brings that same hands-on, no-nonsense approach to preserving your own harvest.

Who This Class Is For: Anyone with more fresh produce than they know what to do with, or anyone who's always wanted to learn to can, dry, or preserve but never had someone show them how. No experience necessary — this class is built for true beginners.

What You'll Learn:

  • Water-bath canning for jams, relishes, sauces, and other high-acid foods

  • Drying and dehydrating fruits, vegetables, and herbs

  • Making flavorful infused salts

  • Quick, practical freezing techniques for seasonal produce

What You'll Walk Away With:

  • Knowledge: A full toolkit of preservation methods you can use at home with whatever's in season

  • In Hand: A printed recipe to take home, plus a prepared sample to taste during class

What to Expect During Your 90 Minutes: This is a hybrid class — part demo, part hands-on participation. Shannon will walk through each technique in real time, and you'll have the chance to ask questions, share your own preservation stories, and get real answers for whatever's growing in your own backyard right now.
